Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability. These questions help us better assess if you’re eligible to apply for citizenship. Your answers do not immediately determine if you are eligible for citizenship.

Please know that if you are not able to complete the legal review in English without an interpreter you may be denied citizenship if you are not eligible for the following exceptions:

50/20
You are exempt from the English language requirement, but are still required to take the civics test if you are: Age 50 or older at the time of filing for naturalization and have lived as a permanent resident (Green Card holder) in the United States for 20 years.

55/15
You are exempt from the English language requirement, but are still required to take the civics test if you are: Age 55 or older at the time of filing for naturalization and have lived as a permanent resident in the United States for 15 years
  • If you qualify for the 50/20 or 55/15 English language exceptions listed above, you must still take the
    civics test.
  • You will be permitted to take the civics test in your native language.
  • If you take the test in your native language, you must bring an interpreter with you to your interview.
  • Your interpreter must be fluent in both English and your native language.


65/20
If you are age 65 or older and have been a permanent resident for at least 20 years at the time of filing for naturalization, you will be given special consideration regarding the civics requirement.

Applicants eligible for a fee waiver must bring one of the following documents:

1.  A means tested benefit / Un beneficio con verificación de recursos
  • A means-tested benefit is a public benefit where the agency granting the benefit considers your income and resources. / Un beneficio con verificación de recursos es un beneficio público donde la agencia que otorga el beneficio considera sus ingresos y recursos.
  • Means-tested benefits may be federally, state, or locally funded. Los beneficios sujetos a comprobación de recursos pueden ser financiados a nivel federal, estatal o local.

  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly called Food Stamps)

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
2.  Document showing your household income is at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines / Documento que demuestre que su ingreso de su hogar es igual o inferior al 150% de las pautas federales de pobreza (Federal Poverty Guideline)
  • 2021 Federal Income Tax Returns/Declaraciones de impuestos federales sobre la renta de 2021

  • Form SSA-1099 (if you are retired)/Formulario SSA-1099 (si está jubilado)
